A Welcoming Home for UHC and United Concordia Patients

Eastgate Family Dental sees patients with UnitedHealthcare Dental and United Concordia coverage. The two carriers share a similar name but are separate companies — UnitedHealthcare Dental is part of UnitedHealth Group, while United Concordia is part of Highmark Inc. We file claims with both directly. Whether your plan came through your employer, a Medicare Advantage benefit, or a TRICARE / federal benefits package, you’re welcome here.

We’re not currently in-network with United Healthcare or United Concordia, but we accept both, file every claim directly on your behalf, and have years of experience working with their billing systems. Most patients find their out-of-pocket cost is comparable to what they’d pay at an in-network office once their reimbursement is applied.

What that means for you in practice: you don’t pay more upfront just because we’re out-of-network. We submit the claim, United pays their portion to our office, and you cover only the remaining patient responsibility. We’ll walk you through your specific benefits before you sit in the chair.

We submit your claim to United Healthcare or United Concordia on the day of your visit. They pay their portion directly to our office, so you don’t front the full cost or chase a reimbursement check.

Family Practice for Every Generation

How UHC Billing Works at Our Office

Even though we’re out-of-network with United Healthcare and United Concordia, billing is straightforward and we handle the work for you:

  1. We verify your benefits before your visit. Call ahead with your UHC or United Concordia member ID and we’ll confirm what’s covered, your remaining annual maximum, deductible, and out-of-network reimbursement levels.
  2. We collect only your estimated patient portion at the visit. You don’t pay the full fee upfront and wait for UHC to reimburse you.
  3. We file the claim with UHC directly. They send payment to our office, not to you.
  4. If there’s a small remaining balance, we send a statement. Most patients find the difference small relative to the comfort of staying with the dentist they trust.
  5. We follow up on any holds or denials. If UHC requests additional information, our front office handles the back-and-forth so you don’t have to.

Want a real number before scheduling? Call us at (616) 245-9830 with your UHC or United Concordia member ID and we’ll provide a written estimate of your out-of-pocket cost.

United Healthcare Patient FAQs

Are you in-network with United Healthcare or United Concordia?

We’re not currently in-network with United Healthcare or United Concordia, but we do accept both plans and bill them directly on your behalf. We treat many patients with UHC coverage every week, and most patients find their out-of-pocket cost is comparable to what they’d pay at an in-network office once their reimbursement is applied.

What’s the difference between UHC Dental and United Concordia?

Despite the similar name, they’re actually separate companies. UnitedHealthcare Dental is part of UnitedHealth Group and is most often offered through commercial employer plans and Medicare Advantage benefits. United Concordia is part of Highmark Inc. and is more commonly offered through the TRICARE Dental Program (military) and federal employee benefits. We file claims with both directly — just bring your member ID and we’ll handle the rest.

Will I pay more out of pocket because you’re out-of-network?

Sometimes a small difference, sometimes not at all. It depends on your specific UHC plan’s out-of-network reimbursement levels and our office fee for the procedure. For preventive visits, most patients pay nothing. For other procedures, we provide a written pre-treatment estimate so you can compare.

Do I have to pay the full fee upfront?

No. We file the claim directly with UHC and they pay our office, not you. At the visit, you only pay your estimated patient portion. If UHC’s payment differs slightly from our estimate, we’ll send a small statement or refund afterward.

Can you check my UHC benefits before I come in?

Yes, and we recommend it. Call us at (616) 245-9830 with your UHC or United Concordia member ID number. We’ll contact them directly, confirm your coverage, and walk you through what to expect at your first visit.

Can I get a treatment estimate before I schedule?

Absolutely. For any major procedure (crowns, root canals, implants, periodontal work), we provide a written pre-treatment estimate showing the procedure cost, what UHC is expected to pay, and your portion. You’ll see real numbers before you commit to scheduling.

What if my insurance changes or I lose coverage?

If you lose your insurance coverage, you’re still welcome here. We offer the Eastgate Membership Plan, an in-house alternative to insurance with one flat annual fee that includes your preventive care plus 10% off most additional treatment. No deductibles, no waiting periods, no claim forms. Learn more about the Eastgate Membership Plan →

If your insurance simply changes to a different carrier, we also bill most major dental insurance plans directly, so you can keep coming to us. See our full list of accepted plans.
